My Mixtape: Vanda and Young Shortlist

APRA AMCOS, Alberts and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia (NRMTA) recently announced the winner of 2014 Vanda and Young Songwriting Competition as Melbourne singer/songwriter, Husky Gawenda, with his song, ‘Saint Joan’ by Husky.

The Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition is one of the world’s most prestigious songwriting competitions with a first prize of AU$50,000.00 provided courtesy of APRA AMCOS and music company, Alberts. This is the largest first prize for any songwriting competition in the world.

Melbourne based singer / songwriter, and triple j’s 2014 Unearthed Artist of the Year, Meg Mac, has taken out second prize with the song ‘Roll Up Your Sleeves’ and will receive AU$10,000 thanks to AMPAL (Australasian Music Publishers Association).

Having had two songs make the final 50, former Talent Development Project graduate, David Le’aupepe, was awarded the third prize of AU$5,000, provided by AEG Ogden, for his song, ‘Poison Drum’, performed by his band, Gang of Youths.

This year’s competition also included an Encouragement Award won by Sydney’s Andy Bull for his song, ‘Baby I Am Nobody Now’. Andy has won a cash prize ofAU$2,000, graciously donated by last year’s winners, The Preatures and a production and A&R feedback package with last year’s 2nd prizewinner, Robert Conley, donated by APRA AMCOS.
