Parliamentary Inquiry into the Australian music industry announced

Monday, 20 Aug 2018

APRA AMCOS welcomes the announcement of a parliamentary inquiry into the Australian music industry.

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications and the Arts will examine the potential for continued growth and the factors affecting the success of the Australian music industry, both domestically and internationally. The Committee wants to hear how Australian songwriters, composers, performers and producers can expand their reach and better compete with overseas artists. Music creators, investors, music companies, record labels, cultural organisations, festivals and other businesses that connect Australian musicians and music with audiences are encouraged to make a submission.

We believe the inquiry should focus on the key areas of: sustainable careers in a sustainable industry, music export, live music, music education, and copyright as a driver of innovation and investment. We will be consulting with members on these key priorities ahead of formulating our submission to the inquiry.

Submissions are due by Friday, 21 September 2018.

Submissions can be made online or by emailing communications.reps@aph.gov.au. For information about the inquiry visit the committee’s webpage at: www.aph.gov.au/communications

Notes to help those intending to make a submission can be found here.
